ELECTRO-MECHANICAL TECHNICIAN

About us:

PRENAV develops automated drones, software, and machine learning algorithms for the inspection of civil infrastructure (bridges, dams, power plants, tunnels, buildings). Our technology captures high fidelity digital twins that are analyzed with deep learning to inspect for cracks, corrosion, and changes over time. In our short history, we’ve visited large industrial sites, inspected cell phone towers and bridges, trained for operations inside a nuclear power plant, and traveled around the world for our customers.

The Role:

We are seeking an Electro-Mechanical Technician to design, prototype, and build hardware solutions at PRENAV. In this role, you’ll collaborate with a cross-functional robotics team on the development of PRENAV’s industrial UAV, LiDAR-enabled base station, accessories, test fixtures, and everything in between. This is a generalist role that involves working with mechanical and electrical systems at our office in Redwood City. Your work will both make robots fly and will help make civil infrastructure safer.

Our Ideal Candidate Has:

  • The ability to work with minimal supervision while maintaining developmental timelines and goals

  • A passion for making stuff - please share a portfolio of things you’ve built with your hands

  • The ability to employ a range of manufacturing methodologies to drive product progression with DFM in mind

  • 2+ years of industry experience in manufacturing, or electro-mechanical assembly

  • Experience with electrical systems, batteries, and electromechanical assemblies

  • Experience with 3D modelling software (AutoCAD, Solidworks, Catia), 1 year minimum

  • Comfortable with various machining tools (hand tools and CNC)

  • Knowledge of ESD safe procedures, lab safety, and machine shop safety

  • This position is active and requires standing and walking for long periods of time, as well as being able to lift up to 40 lbs

  • Bonus

    • Familiarity with aircraft or unmanned aircraft (UAV, UAS, drone) is a strong plus

    • Interest in robotics

    • Knowledge of manufacturing processes is highly desirable

Note: We don’t require that you have experience with everything listed above. We encourage you to learn on the job and if this position seems like it would be a fit and would inspire you to do your best work, please apply.

You Will:

  • Design and develop hardware, enclosures, mounts, and fittings for aircraft and ground support systems

  • Fabricate mechanical and electrical components and assemblies

  • Build and assemble prototypes through 3D printing, CNC, hand tools or other means

  • Use CAD and analysis tools to create mechanical models and drawings for R&D, tooling, and production parts

  • Test and analyze systems, and consult with other teams to ensure design specifications are being met by building rigs, jigs, and other tests for various mechanical systems

  • Review technical drawings/layouts of complex assemblies and parts

  • Participate in conceptual and architectural definition of new designs and help develop product/customer requirements

  • Document product designs and processes, while demonstrating best practices for building shareable and scalable work instructions

  • Maintain the shop and inventory control systems to ensure necessary items are in supply and equipment is organized

  • Troubleshoot product/design/performance issues as needed

  • Innovate production or fabrication methods that reduce overall system weight and power consumption

  • Conduct quality-control or quality-assurance programs and procedures

  • Select and use laboratory equipment to assess and repair electromechanical circuits and equipment

  • This position may require occasional, infrequent domestic travel

What We Can Offer:

  • At PRENAV, we’ve assembled one of the top robotics teams in the world, solving challenging problems in aerial robotics, computer vision, 3D imaging, and systems engineering.

  • We have a collaborative and flexible work environment where everyone’s ideas are welcome and necessary to build our product.

  • Our quirky work space is a converted warehouse in downtown Redwood City that includes a machine shop, a rock climbing wall and a fireplace

  • We offer medical, dental and vision coverage, and pay 100% of the premium for our employees

  • We promote a family-friendly team environment with flexible work hours

  • PRENAV offers a 401k for employees

  • Lunch is provided every day
